After spending day and night upgrading the website, I’m back to blog again one last time about my workshop last month.
Has it really been almost an entire month since I jetted off the southern California? I’d like to go back now that I’m looking at a white-out and around a foot of snow on the ground while I type this. Maybe I’ll jump in on this upcoming weekend’s goPRO and do it again.
I wanted to write about how my weekend with Blue Lily Photo kicked my butt.
First of all, you must understand that there were two different kinds of “butt kicking” involved. 1) A bootcamp butt whooping and 2) The swift kick in the pants. Allow me to explain….
When it came to the photo shoots Wendy and Tyler set up for us, I felt like I was in bootcamp. (Well, what I imagine bootcamp to be like from what I see in movies). I’m an introvert, and competing with 11 other folks to get the shot was draining for me. Of course that was combined with runaway children, choosing the right camera settings, blazing beach sunlight, and swapping out lenses, and dodging killer waves which can wipe a gal out. But just like bootcamp should do – I walked away so much stronger. By the second day I did a little directing of the bride and groom models and I’m thrilled with how those shots turned out. I’ve seen my shooting improve since I’ve been home too.
The teaching during the workshop would best be described for me as a kick in the pants. It was SUCH a confidence booster that I was in the right place, taking the right steps, and heading in the right direction. I’ve been saying for awhile now that taking on this photography business is hard for me because I don’t have personal guidance. In college I was constantly getting feedback on my teaching skills, and in my current job I’m blessed to have a boss who’s guided me along the way. My weekend with Wendy and Tyler reassured me I’m on the right track. They helped me realize I need to stop comparing myself to all the other photographers out there and do what’s right for ME. I left that weekend ready to take on so many new ideas and projects. They pushed me forward into what I’d been hesitating to do.
Thank you Blue Lily! I’m eternally grateful!
